Online WORKSHOP
Thursday, March 31 – Thursday, April 28, 2022
Each Thursday, 7:00-9:00pm EDT
Led by Grisel Y. Acosta
Limited to 12 participants
“We are nature, entangled in its movements.” ~Julius Lobo
In this generative workshop, influenced by the ecopoetic workshop of Craig Santos Pérez, you will develop a series of poems or one long poem where you explore your entanglements in nature, paying close attention to issues of environmental justice. Our journey will be guided by the work of Raquel Salas Rivera, Ross Gay, LaTasha Nevada Diggs, Naomi Shihab Nye and Robert Sullivan, as well as selections from ecopoetry anthologies and craft essays on ecopoetics. As we investigate the relationship between nature and culture, we’ll experiment with several forms, including erasure, visual poetry and a hybrid text. While there will be opportunity to receive constructive and supportive feedback from other workshop participants, our focus will be on developing new poems and ideas. Beginning and experienced writers are welcome.
“The program was incredibly nourishing, useful and so much fun. Thank you for translating these workshops to an online medium so elegantly.”
~ Nina, New York, NY

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I’m new to writing workshops. Will I fit in?
Absolutely! Our experienced workshop leaders plan their courses to benefit both beginning and experienced writers. We pride ourselves on building an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcome.
I’ve taken dozens of workshops. What will I get out of this one?
Our faculty challenge experienced writers to push beyond their usual limits. If you have been writing for decades, they will compel you to go deeper, take more risks and experiment with form and content. We know that experienced writers benefit from our programs based on the fact that hundreds of “re-PETERs” have attended three or more of our writing getaways.
I’ve never taken an online workshop before. Do I need special equipment?
No. If you’re reading this website, you probably have everything you need to take this course. You can participate using a laptop or desktop computer, or even a tablet or smart phone.
