An advanced poetry workshop
An intensive workshop for the serious writer of demonstrated skill who will be asked to respond to weekly writing assignments and to regard revision as a semester-long project. Emphasis will be placed on different approaches to generating new work, as well as on revision techniques.

Stephen Dunn is the author of 19 volumes of poetry including his latest, Whereas: Poems, published in 2017. A new book of poems Pagan Virtues is scheduled for the fall of 2019. And his second book of essays Degrees of Fidelity has just been published by Tiger Bark Press. His previous books include Different Hours, which was awarded the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry, Here and Now (2011), and Lines of Defense (2014) all from W.W. Norton. Stephen has received awards and fellowships from The American Academy of Arts and Letters, The Guggenheim Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Poetry Magazine, Poetry Northwest, Mid-American Review and many others. A new and expanded edition of his book of essays, Walking Light, was published in 2001. He is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Creative Writing at Stockton University, but spends most of his time in Frostburg, Maryland, with his wife, the writer Barbara Hurd. Peter E. Murphy was born in Wales and grew up in New York City where he operated heavy equipment, managed a nightclub and drove a cab. He is the author of ten books and chapbooks including two books of writing prompts and Stubborn Child, a finalist for the Paterson Poetry Prize. More than a dozen excerpts of his memoir-in-progress, You Go To My Head, have been published as standalone pieces in literary magazines including “Looking for Thelma,” winner of the 2018 Wilt Nonfiction Chapbook Prize. The founder of Murphy Writing of Stockton University, Peter has received dozens of awards and fellowships and has led hundreds of workshops for writers and teachers. Requirements
Admission will be determined based on the quality of writing samples. To apply, email the following in a Word .doc (or .docx) to Peter at peter@murphywriting.com.

- A few paragraphs detailing your relationship to poetry listing relevant coursework, writing experiences, poets you admire, etc
- Admission is on a rolling basis and is first-come, first served. Apply early to secure your seat.
Pricing + Registration
- Tuition and fees: approximately $2,000 for 4 credits. Free tuition for seniors 65+—just pay fees!
- If selected, you will have to obtain a student “Z-number” from the Registrar’s office. If you are not a matriculated Stockton student, we strongly encourage you to register as an auditor.
