about
Prompts
We’ve assembled an archive of nearly 200 writing prompts, which you can respond to in any genre or form. These are located under the “Assignment” category on our Canvas platform.
If you wrote with us previously, we encourage you to revise what you’ve written and to re-see any prompts you may have already responded to with fresh eyes.
Sharing
If you write in response to our prompts, we invite you to share your work and read what others have written in a discussion board format.
Write Time
If you are craving more accountability and structure, we will be hosting free virtual writing sessions over Zoom, a chance to virtually connect with other writers for some dedicated writing time. We will write together on Wednesdays at 7pm EST/EDT. You can join us using this link.
During each session, we will offer a prompt for you to respond to, but you will be free to write anything you wish.
Your host each Wednesday will be Juliet Fletcher, who has been a steadfast member of the Murphy Writing community for many years.
How to Join
The Murphy Write-In is hosted on the free Canvas platform. If you don’t have a Canvas account, you’ll be asked to create one, but it takes just a few clicks. You’ll need to enter your email address and your name.
Already enrolled? Click HERE to access the course homepage. You’ll be asked to log in using the email address you used when registering. Click “forgot password” if you don’t know your password.
If you’re already logged in, you can click here to go directly to the prompts, or here to go directly to the sharing spaces.
Questions + Feedback
If you have any questions or have trouble accessing the platform, email us at murphywriting@stockton.edu. If you have other ideas for ways we can help support you, our writing community, let us know.
Contribute
We’ve developed free programs to help our community keep writing and stay connected because we believe writing matters. If you’d like to support these online offerings, we’ve set up a pass-the-hat link. Any contribution at all will help us keep these online programs going.
If you’d like to throw a couple of dollars into the hat, you can do so HERE.
