WORKSHOP
Saturday, March 27, 2021
12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT
Led by Mimi Schwartz
Some stories need to be revisited. As time passes, we become different people who know and feel things that we didn’t know and feel before. As writers, the challenge is revisiting an old story even with a voice in our head saying, “You said that already!” In this workshop, using other memoirs as examples, we will explore motives and strategies for telling a story twice. We will consider how time changes the story we thought we knew; how to re-enter our own experiences from different, often wider perspectives; how other voices can enrich our memoir; and the surprises that follow for writer and reader.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I take this workshop if I’ve never written memoir?
This workshop is designed for memoir writers who would like to rewrite a story they’ve previously written, but writers of all experience levels are welcome. Email info@murphywriting.com if you have questions.
I’m new to writing workshops. Will I fit in?
Absolutely. We pride ourselves on building an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcome.
I’ve been to dozens of workshops. What will I get out of this one?
Our faculty challenge experienced writers to push beyond their usual limits. If you have been writing for decades, they will compel you to go deeper, take more risks and experiment with form and content. We know that experienced writers benefit from our programs based on the fact that hundreds of “re-PETERs” have attended three or more of our writing getaways.
I’ve never taken an online workshop before. Do I need special equipment?
No. If you’re reading this website, you probably have everything you need to take this workshop. You can participate using a laptop or desktop computer, or even a tablet or smart phone.
“Thank you for providing this opportunity to write, learn, grow, think, feel, rewrite—and be part of a supportive community.”
