Treat yourself to an online fiction workshop focused on techniques for writing short stories. Write, share and hone your skills in a supportive, productive environment.
WORKSHOP
Saturday, August 1, 2020
12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT
Led by Jade Jones
Whether we’re casually talking to friends or crafting a formal speech, stories are integral to our lives. So the short story form can seem deceptively simple. After all, how hard can it be to write a few thousand words with a beginning, middle and end? Well, it turns out, it is harder than we think!
In this workshop, we will examine models from contemporary writers to explore what a short story can accomplish. Through generative writing exercises, we will practice techniques to help you hone your skills in key aspects of the short story: voice, plot and characterization. After we spend our time writing, we will share and discuss our work in a supportive, productive environment. You are welcome to develop a short story you’re currently working on or you can start something entirely new.
Space is limited. Register today so you’re not disappointed.
“The readings were well-chosen and the encouragement was outstanding.”

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I’m new to writing workshops. Will I fit in?
Absolutely. Peter’s unique prompts will allow this supportive program to benefit both beginning and experienced writers. We pride ourselves on building an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcome.
I’ve taken dozens of workshops. What will I get out of this one?
Our faculty challenge experienced writers to push beyond their usual limits. If you have been writing for decades, they will compel you to go deeper, take more risks and experiment with form and content. We know that experienced writers benefit from our programs based on the fact that hundreds of “re-PETERs” have attended three or more of our writing getaways.
I’ve never taken an online workshop before. Do I need special equipment?
No. If you’re reading this website, you probably have everything you need to take this workshop. You can participate using a laptop or desktop computer, or even a tablet or smart phone.
