WORKSHOP

A writer in workshopSaturday, June 5, 2021
12:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. EDT
Led by Peter E. Murphy

Join us for a welcoming online getaway designed for writers of fiction, memoir, creative nonfiction and poetry. This retreat will trigger your imagination, giving you the freedom to compose new and exciting work. Spend a half-day immersed in the literary life: writing, discussing craft and sharing new drafts.

While different genres have different demands, Peter has found that fiction writers, nonfiction writers and poets can learn much about their own craft by reading, discussing and experimenting with the craft of others. For example, playing with dialogue, setting and point of view can make a poem more surprising and meaningful. Paying attention to compression, rhythm and sound can make a work of prose stronger and more credible.

Register today for this inspiring workshop.

“This workshop, especially the prompts, challenged and propelled me into new genres and a fresh voice.“

~ Elizabeth, Metuchen, NJ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Writer in online workshop

I’m new to writing workshops. Will I fit in?
Absolutely. Our unique prompts will allow this supportive program to benefit both beginning and experienced writers. We pride ourselves on building an encouraging community of writers where all feel welcome.

I’ve taken dozens of workshops. What will I get out of this one?
Our faculty challenge experienced writers to push beyond their usual limits. If you have been writing for decades, they will compel you to go deeper, take more risks and experiment with form and content. We know that experienced writers benefit from our programs based on the fact that hundreds of “re-PETERs” have attended three or more of our writing getaways.

I’ve never taken an online workshop before. Do I need special equipment?
No. If you’re reading this website, you probably have everything you need to take this workshop. You can participate using a laptop or desktop computer, or even a tablet or smart phone.

“Wonderful — as always.“

~ Sam, Highland Park, NJ
